Day 3 began with balloons and banners as it was Kieren's birthday!! We started the day by scrolling and scrolling searching for a place to go for breakfast that at least did some sausages or bacon as by this point we were craving it. We managed to find a place called Belushi's where we managed to find a full english breakfast!
After our well needed breakfast, we headed to Europe's oldest zoo - Berlin Zoo! It was absolutely amazing, there was so many animals to see as well as having the ability to also visit the aquarium too at an extra cost but we decided just to go for the zoo. It was much warmer this day which I was happy to see as I had chosen shorts to wear today so the sun was greatly appreciated! We saw everything from Kieren's long lost family of Giraffes to Elephants, Penguins to Hippos and Zebras to my lost lost family of Orangutans!
After the zoo, we headed back to our hotel for a quick power nap after being out in the sun all day. For our last supper, we decided to go back to our favourite Potsdamer Platz in the hope of finding a nice restaurant for dinner.
We ended up picking a restaurant called Alex and Kieren decided it was his last chance to try another German delicacy, Schnitzel. It was surprisingly really good! Essentially it was a pork steak fried in breadcrumbs and served with fries but was surprisingly delicious! I had the pulled pork burger which was amazing and then spaghetti ice cream with raspberries and raspberry sauce for dessert and yes, that is actually a thing!
The next morning it was time to head home. Berlin Tegel airport is officially my 2nd most awful airport I've ever been in (nothing beats Zante and its 4 gates) as it was absolute chaos. With 3 different security controls and next to no shops or food outlets paired with a 2 hour delay and the stress of potentially having to pay an overstay parking fee at Edinburgh Airport, it's safe to say, we were both pretty stressed. We finally got back to Edinburgh narrowly avoiding a late fee and got home in one piece.
Berlin was an amazing city break and definitely worth the visit for even a few days. Now that I've been there and done that, I think next time I'd like to head to maybe Stuttgart or Munich or even Germany's Europa Park on my next visit to Deutschland! Tschüss!
